Unemployment continues on a downward trend. It didn't take the GOP long to spin good news into bad news, did it? Of course, we know many people have quit looking for work and are not counted in the jobless statistics. And certainly, the current method of calculating unemployment is flawed. But if the methods are valid when the numbers favor Republicans, then they are valid when they favor President Obama. It really is that simple. The old "What's good for the goose...."
It is really a matter of honesty, isn't it? Makes no difference if the spinning is from the right or the left. If it leads to deception and misrepresentation by either side, it should be call what it is: LYING!!!

ARE CHRISTIANS REALLY CHRISTIAN???
Often when I debate my conservative friends they go on about self-reliance and how lazy the poor are. Most of them claim to be Christian of one stripe or another. But are they really Christian?? I wonder. Conservatives used to ask, "What would Jesus do?" They seem not to ask that question anymore. Probably because the answer is so inconvenient.
For example, would Jesus deny health care to the poor? "If there is a poor man among you, one of your brothers, in any of the towns of the land which the LORD your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart, nor close your hand to your poor brother; but you shall freely open your hand to him, and generously lend him sufficient for his need in whatever he lacks." Deut. 15:7. It would seem that John Boehner and Paul Ryan are at odds with Jesus. Many of the poor (and middle class) lack health care, but those guys would cut medicaid and medicare adding to the already close to 50 million uninsureds.
Christians complain about the shiftless poor, but Jesus took a different view. "When you give a luncheon or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbors, lest they also invite you in return, and repayment come to you. But when you give a reception, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed, since they do not have the means to repay you; for you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous." Luke 14:12-14.
And what might be the price of not helping the poor? Try this. "Behold, this was the guilt of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters had arrogance, abundant food, and careless ease, but she did not help the poor and needy. Thus they were haughty and committed abominations before Me. Therefore I removed them when I saw it." Modern Christians would like us to believe that Sodom fell because it was promiscuous. NOT TRUE!! It was greedy and stingy. It denied the poor what they needed. No wonder Christians don't ask, "What would Jesus do?" The fact is that they are afraid to acknowledge that Jesus would kick their asses out of the Kingdom. They must hope that if they ignore Jesus and continue to deprive the poor to line the pockets of the rich, that if they don't invoke Jesus' name, he won't be paying attention and will give them a pass through the pearly gates. I know what Jesus would say, "Fat Chance!! Mr. Boehner! Meet my friend Satan.!"

DO YOU FUCKING BELIEVE IT???
Andrew Breitbart at breitbart.com posts an snakey video of Shirley Sherrod, a USAD employee in Georgia, to make it appear that she, a black government employee, is a racist. What a dishonest moron! Turns out she was telling a parable of how as a young woman she confronted and overcame her own bias to help a poor white farmer save his home and to cast aside the old views. The farmer still owns his farm and gratefully counts Ms. Sherrod as a friend.
I spent half my adult life as a Republican but just as many Germans rejected the Nazi Party, I have rejected the GOP and their underhanded, amoral tactics. These tactics are not new, just more vile. They go far beyond anything the Nixon plumbers or Lee Atwater ever devised. Karl Rove and his followers have made an art of lies and deception. (And before the right-wing nuts to too nuts, Papa Joe Kennedy and Mayor Daddy Daley served the Dems very well in that arena, too.) But being the party of "No!" and the party of "No Lie is Too Big!" have taken the practice to heights never before seen. Not only that, they have created the Tea Party to further spread their filth. The time has come for the rest of us to fight back!
